Exuberant joy, electric dialogue, spacious eloquent playing, perfect unanimity, are words that regularly come back about Trio con Brio Copenhagen, now considered one of the leading piano trios of the new generation

 

 

Gaining attention soon after its formation in 1999, the Trio con Brio Copenhagen won top prizes in some of chamber music’s most important international competitions for young ensembles, the 2002 ARD Competition in Munich, the 2003 Premio Vittorio Gui in Florence, and the 2003 Trondheim Chamber Music Competition. In 2005, the trio was further honored with the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson International Piano Trio Award, giving them concerts in twenty major concert series across the USA including New York City’s Carnegie Hall.

The trio was founded at the Vienna University of Music. They were coached by the Alban Berg Quartet, Frans Helmerson, Mihaela Martin and Harald Schoneweg at the Cologne University of Music and received excellent musical guidance by Ferenc Rados in Budapest.

The today Copenhagen-based trio’s international engagements take them to the New York’s Carnegie Hall, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall London, Musikhalle Hamburg, Seoul Arts Center, Bunka Kaikan Tokyo.

In the season 2008/2009, the trio’s busy schedule includes concerts at the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Schwetzinger Festspiele, Library of Congress, Washington DC, Yale University, Stanford University, Chicago Chamber Music Society, Sejong Center in Seoul. The trio is also invited to perform Beethoven’s Triple Concerto at the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. As Ensemble in Residence the Trio con Brio Copenhagen will be frequently featured at the Mogens Dahl Concert Hall, Copenhagen and the Usedom Music Festival in Germany. Furthermore the trio will be undertaking its first major tour of Great Britain after a very successful debut at the Wigmore Hall in May 2008.

During their 10th anniversary season in 2009/2010 Trio con Brio Copenhagen will be performing a Beethoven cycle in the Royal Library in Copenhagen, in Musikhuset in Aarhus and in Sejong Center in Seoul.

The Trio con Brio Copenhagen performs at major concert halls and festivals in Europe, USA and Asia, such as the Konzerthaus Berlin, Mozarteum Salzburg, Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Bachfest Leipzig, Kravis Performing Arts Center, the Beethoven-Haus Bonn, the Båstad Chamber Music Festival in Sweden, and the Bergen Festspil and the Trondheim Chamber Music Festival in Norway.

Trio con Brio Copenhagen has recorded a CD on Azica with works by Ravel, Dvorák and Bloch. The American Record Guide wrote of the trio’s début CD: “One of the greatest performances of chamber music I’ve ever encountered…” In spring 2009 the trio will release 2 new CDs on the Danish label Classico. Marking the Mendelssohn Year, one of the TCBC´s CD releases is a Mendelssohn CD with his 2 piano trios, op.49 and. op 66, and the other CD will be featuring the Beethoven´s Triple Concerto and Piano Concerto #3 with the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra.
