Early Music Organisation of Ireland QuintEssential is six young musicians with a dazzling array of musical talent. Specialising in early music with an original and unusual repertoire, they ensure that period brass instruments speak to a contemporary audience in an exciting and innovative voice. Listen to this unique ensemble and be transported back to another age through a musical programme with a fresh and vibrant insight into Renaissance brass. Formed
in 1993 by an organist and five wind players, members of QuintEssential
have performed with some of the leading British period instrument groups,
while QuintEssential has collaborated with vocal ensembles such as the
Oxford Camerata, Concertare, the Choir of the Brompton Oratory and the
Choir of the Chapel Royal at the Tower of London. Participation
in various early music festivals such as those in York, Beverley,
Warwick & Leamington and Norfolk & Norwich, Spitalfields
Festival, London and tours throughout Europe have ensured a growing and
dedicated following for the group. In 2002 the ensemble appeared at the
Lufthansa Baroque Music Festival in London, the Brezice Early Music
Festival, Slovenia, The Landshuter Hofmusiktage, Germany as well as
performing in Italy. In September 2002 the ensemble undertook an
extensive concert tour of Colombia. In May 2003, the ensemble appeared
at the Aranjuez Early Music Festival in Spain This season sees the
ensemble making festival appearances in Finland, Germany, Switzerland,
Poland, Italy and Spain Their
debut CD "In Venetia" was released to critical acclaim in
1998, and undoubtedly enhanced QuintEssential's growing reputation as an
inventive and expressive young period instrument ensemble.
In August 2002 a CD of Elizabethan music, marking the 400th
anniversary of Queen Elizabeth I. Death in 2003 was released on the
Chandos label In keeping with their philosophy to bring early music to as wide an audience as possible QuintEssential have been highly active in an educational capacity. Their rich and extensive knowledge of the historical and social importance of their unusual instruments adds a stimulating dimension to their programme and a high level of audience participation ensures an unforgettable experience. The ensemble has made regular appearances on BBC and commercial radio & television.
